NetDrop

Transfer files between your devices, friends and supported agents on doxx.net.

October 1, 2026

Send files directly between connected devices without a doxx.net cloud-storage copy.

1.To send a file

  1. In the app, open Comms → NetDrop → 📁 at the top right and choose a file.
  2. Select the recipient.
  3. The recipient must accept the transfer request on their device.
  4. Confirm the transfer.

Transfers use two layers of encryption: between devices and through the tunnel, with fresh keys for each transfer. Our integrity checks confirm that the received file matches the file sent.

To configure NetDrop, open: Account → Settings ⚙ → P2P E2EE Comms → NetDrop.

2.Additional features

  • Pick up where you left off. Interrupted transfers resume where they stopped.
  • Devices verify each other first. Both devices confirm each other’s identity before any file data moves.
  • Verified on arrival. A transfer only shows as verified after the receiving device confirms that its copy matches the original.

3.Common questions

How do I know my file was transferred?

Open NetDrop → Sent. If the file appears there, your contact has received it.

What does the progress bar show?

The bar shows download progress in blue or upload progress in pink.

Does the sender need to stay online?

The file stays on the sending device until the receiver requests it. Once another device has a verified copy, that device can serve future downloads too. The original sender doesn’t have to stay online, but a device holding the file needs to be reachable.

Where are my received files saved?

On iOS, received photos, videos and files are saved in Photos or Files if you give doxx.net the required access.

Files accepted through NetDrop outside Chat save to Photos or your documents.

Do we have to be next to each other?

No. NetDrop works between connected devices over doxx.net, so the person receiving the file doesn't have to be in the same room or on your Wi-Fi.

Will my photos and videos lose quality?

NetDrop transfers the original file. It doesn't need to reduce the quality to fit a messaging-service upload.

Does doxx.net keep a copy of the file?

No cloud-storage copy is held by doxx.net. The sender and recipient can still keep their own copies on their devices.

What do the integrity checks do?

They check that the file received matches the file sent. That isn't a malware scan or a guarantee that the file is safe to open. Only open files from people you trust.
