MTU
MTU sets the maximum packet size for your tunnel. Automatic mode adjusts it to your network.

Different networks leave different amounts of room for those packets. doxx.net automatically adjusts the tunnel’s packet size to account for the network and encryption overhead, helping prevent oversized packets from being dropped and transfers getting stuck.
1.How to set up
MTU defaults to Automatic. To review the setting, open Account → Settings ⚙ → Connection Settings → MTU in the app. The screen is titled MTU Management.
- Select Automatic. This is recommended for almost everyone.
- Check Current Tunnel MTU to see the value being used.
Automatic sizing adjusts again when your network changes. Consider Manual only if the connection still misbehaves, such as on a hotel or corporate network.
2.Additional features
- Automatic sizing: Match the tunnel’s packet size to the network you’re using.
- Adapt to network changes: Recalculate the size when the connection changes.
- Account for encryption overhead: Leave room for the information added around your data.
- Current MTU display: See the tunnel’s active value and whether it was selected automatically.
- Manual override: Adjust the value when automatic sizing doesn’t suit a particular network.
3.Common questions
Should I change this setting?
Usually, no. Leave it on Automatic unless you’re troubleshooting a connection problem or have experience with networking.
Why does the MTU change between networks?
Different networks add different amounts of overhead. A mobile connection may leave less room for your tunnel’s packets than Wi-Fi does.
Should I set mine to 1420?
No. We recommend leaving MTU on Automatic. The right value depends on your network; 1420 is one possible setting.
Can an incorrect MTU cause downloads to stall?
Yes. If packets are too large for the connection, they can be dropped. This can leave larger transfers stuck even when some smaller requests still work.
